At last! The ideal hydration app.
This is only my second day using this app but already I can say it is clearly the best I have ever tried, and Ive tried at least half a dozen of them. From cute apps more like a kids game than a health oriented app to non intuitive apps obviously designed by techies with no understanding of interface design, they all had glaring weaknesses. But this one has everything I need. First, the app icon can carry a notification sub icon number showing either the total volume already drunk (or remaining to be drunk) or the corresponding percentages. I find this is a helpful reminder to keep drinking! Then I can choose from preset volumes for each drink or create my own (for instance 187ml for a quarter bottle of wine). The visual representation of the current total is cute but a little over the top--a figure with water sloshing around in it and gradually filling the image!
Since I sometimes forget to add a volume when I drink it, it is convenient to be able to go back easily and quickly to add the entry correction. I dont care much for the "achievement" awards but they do no harm and I suppose they might motivate someone...
I also quite like the history view that shows the totals for the current day and the past week or month. All in all its a very well designed app, and its hard to imagine any desirable improvements. I do have one, however. No one (certainly not me) drinks only water. It would be good to be able to choose icons that represent other drinks (tea, coffee, fruit juice, beer, wine and spirits). Given that, especially if the volume totals for these other drinks were corrected for their actual water content, this really would be the hydration app to rule them all.
Added March 10, 2017.
You can now add other drinks, clearly identified by logos, and actually their estimated water content is added, calculated from the volume of the drink. For instance, "spirits" seems to assume that the liquor is a whisky or brandy at about 43% by volume--very reasonable. Everything from fruit juices through sports drinks to wine and beer are accommodated.
I could ask for nothing more. This really is the best app for maintaining high water intake!
